The only ones who can fully understand chaos are those who have survived it’s reign… and they are often few and far between. The Chaotic Era stemmed from the erosion of royal power. With each passing year, the king and his court saw their control shrink.
And the world has simply become too large, too fragmented and too diverse. No single group could dictate the course of events.
That was nature of chaos.
The battles for the castles finally showed the truth of a world turned upside down. Even an unknown adventurer of common birth could attain power usually reserved for royalty. Groups of adventurers bound together as clans. They quickly demonstrated their ability to dominate local and regional affairs. The clans became numerous.
Cabals sought to manipulate them, sparking widespread conflict. Like a shadow creeping across a darkening room, chaos spread across the land. Strange new monsters appears to wreck destruction and ancient terrors were reawakened. But as the clans grew stronger, they also grew wiser. They threw off the controlling influence of the cabals and asserted their own power to shape events.
New Heroes and Noblesses gained positions of power and leadership within the clans. The clans gradually became the towns protectors against the forces of darkness. As their power grew, even mighty foes like Antharas and Valakas fled before them. The clans had eventually supplanted their masters.
Power resided with those who could not only grasp it, but hold it. History had pronounced its verdict. ..or had it?
A new spirit of cooperation between the five races began to grow. Following a secret meeting between the elders of each race. This “Giran Reunification” occurred thanks to the efforts of a mysterious woman in blue. She revealed the existence of powerful primitive creatures swelling on a remote island. She also spoke of the whispers in the dark, foretelling the coming of a new race. The elders began to assist the clans with potent new weapons and strategic information. The clans were to be the building blocks of a new Golden Age. One that blended the best attributes of each of the races: the wisdom of the elves; the strength of the orcs the cleverness of the dwarves; the knowledge of the dark elves; and the versatility of the Humans.
Whether the golden Age has yet been achieved is a topic for another day… thus the tale ends and a new era begins.
